This is a hot item right now on the discussion group I participate in, and an overwhelming number of answers came from many experimenters.
Basically they are saying that the water vapor and hydrogen steam-cleans the engine including valves, pistons and passages. I added my own affirmation, saying that this is what I have observed as well.
I tried this technology on many cars myself: my 20-year old bronco-II, my 8-year old corolla, my roommate's 20-year old Subaru, my friend's jaguar xj-6 and more. Never seen a problem. The cars run smoother and quieter when you put the system on, and become rough shortly after you remove it (but not as bad because it will take years to accumulate the same amount of junk that it has cleaned).
The amount of water in the mixture is a TINY bit more, but there's a lot of water there regularly, especially when riding in the rain or any humid area. The bottom line is less damage and less maintenance in the long run. Just from stopping the engine's "pinging" or knocking makes less tear and wear on everything, even the transmission.
One funny story to end: a lady who had a system installed in her car "complained", well not exactly complained but she was puzzled how come she doesn't hear the engine any more...but the car keeps running...
