I'm probably just showing my ignorance but I have to ask the question anyway.
I see a lot of talk about enhancers etcetera, to alter inputs to the ECU so that it will cause the engine to run leaner. There are obviously people involved in HOD who have knowledge of the inputs and outputs of the ECU. Couldn't one of them design an ECU Enhancer to alter the one output going to the Fuel Injectors rather than all of these inputs to the ECU, since the output is what we are trying to adjust anyway?
Now I know that someone is going to point out that if the engine starts running leaner then the O2 sensor is going to detect it and the ECU will start making adjustments to try to counter it, but I've heard many times that it is “bad” to disconnect your battery because then the ECU has to relearn it's parameters.
If the battery were disconnected, the ECU Enhancer installed and then the battery reconnected, then when the engine was started the ECU would “relearn” the new O2 readings as the engine's normal operating condition wouldn't it?

| Thank you! I have suggested this in the past, and am attempting to do so. There is a company that manufactures what they call a "soft flash". Aparently it connects to the ECU and "over-rides" the output of the ECU. They claim that it works great on the OBD-11 set-ups. (Unfortunately, they do not go back beyond 1996. I'm including the link for anyone who is interested in checking it out. Sorry, but I don't know anyone who has tried it at this time. http://yhst-19807630266082.stores.yahoo.net/fuel-saver--fs1.html
They are individually tuned to particular make, model, year. On sale for 59.99
